Day 6 - Aloha at the Huke Lau

Another slow day for lessons. 5 kids were signed up but only 2 showed (the cousins from Hawaii). I taught the blonde cutie from the other day and ventured over to the Olympic chair. Weather was blue skies, not much snow overnight, and cold. Did I mention cold?? brrrr......

Day 5 - training

Who would have thought there would still be some untouched pow left in the Alpine? Finally got to do a bit of freeriding today .....
Returning Staff Training was today. Took a few runs/learned what to do, what not to do. It was cold but the snow was nice. Still a lot of trees showing through the snow in Green Acres area but also plenty of powder. It's also been snowing most of today so tomorrow should be nice as well.

A look up at Tower #2 on Whistler (Peak to Peak Gondola)

Day 4 - 22cm overnight!

The lift line was long this morning! The snow that started yesterday around 11am and ended around midnight dumped around 22cm (8.6 inches) of fresh pow.

Unfortunately, I spent my day on the Magic Carpet and Olympic area.... but the snow was awesome even there. Ski School will be slow until the Christmas holidays. Today I had a 7 yr. old from Hawaii who never snowboarded before. He was a super good rider, and for a 7 yr. old - he was fun to teach as he listened and tried everything I told him to do instead of doing what most 7 yr. olds do -- point their boards down the hill and just go as fast as they can. Then they fall to make themselves stop. Anyway, this kid was extra cool as he had a cool haircut and two diamond earrings!!!

Day 3 - Another busy day in paradise

Thanksgiving is still going strong here in Canada. Lots of riders today at Whistler Kids. I split a group of 10 kids who never ever rode a snowboard before. They spent most of their day on their little butts .... ha ha. Lots and lots and lots of runs down the Magic Carpet. The worst part of the day is trying to download to the Village via the gondola ..... along with the 500 other people who spent their day on the mountain.

Day 2 - TGIF (not really)

I went from not working (for the past two months) to working the next 9 days in a row! Luckily I've been working out every day so riding didn't put much wear and tear on my body.... except for my feet. Gotta get use to those snowboard boots again!! Lots more kids today. Of the 40 we had signed up, 28 of them had never snowboarded before. I split a group of Level 2's with a fellow instructor named Nic. It was a pretty easy day and much warmer than yesterday (but still cold!).

100 days - Part II - Day ONE!

Thanksgiving Day! First day of work! Day One of a second 100 day season! It was freezing today (or maybe my body was still thinking I was in Vegas). Pretty busy day for the first day of a holiday weekend. I had two kids in a Level 2 class .... one from Washington State (he use to live in Colorado but moved to Washington "against his will") and the other from Miami. I was wishing I was in Miami I was so cold but anyway. Got the first day under my belt.

November 17, 2007 - Official Opening Day

It's official. Whistler announced another early season opening -- this year's date: Saturday Nov 17th. Unfortunately, I have plans to be out of town for the weekend so I'll miss opening day . But I think I'll go up and take some runs on Tuesday when I return. In the meantime, Kevin says he'll get a day or two jump on my ride days by hitting the slopes on opening day.
